On my first trip to Kenya, I was introduced to Acacia Tree Lodge. It is a beautiful 15 room lodge with its own cafe and gardens situated in Karen, just outside of Nairobi. The rooms are clean and spacious and there are even screens on the windows to combat the mosquitos-a bonus for the climate. The staff is friendly and accommodating to help make your stay seamless and easy. If it’s a cool night, you can request a hot water bottle for your bed. They can help coordinate transportation and recommend things to do. It’s the small extras that they are happy to provide for you. If you have the day to rest and relax, you might find yourself sitting in the cafe, having tea, enjoying conversation with the manager while watching the sunbirds flutter through the flowers. There is also a small pendeza bead shop on the property that benefits women living in Kibera slum.

The best part about Acacia Tree is the fact that 100% of their proceeds are invested in to Kibera slum located in Nairobi. The hotel is part of the non-profit organization, New Hope Initiative, that provides education and scholarships to kids living in Kibera. Check them out and consider sponsoring a child!
