Inhale the fresh crisp air and the quiet solitude of Hemingways Eden-secluded past the Giraffe Center in Nairobi. As a new travel agent specializing in Kenya, I wanted to do a few site visits on my most recent trip. On this particular day I had already visited two hotels in the heart of Nairobi and I was to visit an additional after this one. I never made it to the last one…I relished the peace that I was experiencing here.
As I reached the end of the drive, I was greeted by a small reception area located in front of the main house.

The stone pathway led through a few trees and then to the porch of the main house, which can sleep 9. The front door opened up to an expansive rustic, yet cozy, great room. There was a beautiful big fireplace surrounded by comfortable seating, a massive wood table, doors that led to the back verandah with ample seating for everyone. The magnificent log stairs leading to the second floor are a treasure on their own.

The next level showcases three bedrooms, all ensuite. All the artwork and bronze sculptures seen throughout are from the family that originally built the residence.
The third floor, known as the children’s floor, featured 3 twin beds.

I was not able to view the lofts or the cottage as they all had guests, but was able to check out the studio. A nice open floor plan downstairs with a living area and an ensuite bedroom upstairs.

The last stop on the tour was the dining area. It was so calm and peaceful-set on a lagoon the ambiance felt like I had stepped in to another dimension. I was served fresh passion juice and mango juice and had arrowroot and plantain crisps brought out. It was enough to make me call my daughter and friends to join me for dinner.

The food was amazing and the service by Jackton was incomparable. My friends and I relaxed, talked, laughed, enjoyed the vibe, and stayed until sunset.
If you are staying at Hemingways Eden, you have the option to have your meals in your lodging or in the dining area. They can also organize artistic events for you-cooking, painting, weaving, etc. And since you are bordering the giraffe center, you occasionally get to see giraffes wonder along the edge of the property and you will certainly be greeted by the resident monkeys.
If you are just visiting for the restaurant, there is a separate entrance so you do not disturb the guests. There is also the option for a “freshen up”- a shower and a meal.
I would highly recommend a stop and a stay here. It is truly a retreat in the hustle and bustle of Nairobi-a peace and a calm for the mind that is always thinking.
